Snowfall forecast through Wednesday morning

The quick-moving system will bring a swath of light to moderate snow to Upstate New York and much of New England Tuesday into Wednesday.

A disturbance racing across central Canada will take a southeastward turn as it moves across the Upper Great Lakes tonight into Tuesday morning, producing a mix of rain, freezing rain, and snow.

The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is first in line for wintry precipitation, with much of the region seeing 1 to 4 inches of snow tonight through Tuesday. Locally higher totals from lake-effect bands are possible in the eastern parts of the Peninsula. Winter Weather Advisories can be found across most of the Upper Peninsula.

Most of New York and New England will see light to moderate snow as this system speeds through Tuesday afternoon and evening, with some lingering snow showers lasting into Wednesday morning and afternoon. Pennsylvania will see rain changing over to snow Tuesday night, with mostly rain showers expected in New Jersey and New York City.

Much of New England and Upstate New York will receive 1 to 4 inches of snowfall, but higher amounts of 4 to 6 inches are possible from northern New York to Vermont, New Hampshire, and southern Maine.

Areas of freezing rain could occur from northern Michigan to southern New York, but ice accumulations would be light, with a glaze to a tenth of an inch of ice possible.
