Today's Forecast High Temperatures

A new week signals a new opportunity for blazing heat across the central, southern and southeastern U.S.

High pressure locking in over the Gulf will pump plenty of hot, humid air into the Southern Tier this week. Along with abundant sunshine, afternoon temperatures will climb into the middle to upper 90s. When combined with dew point values in the middle to upper 70s, it will feel more like it's in the 100s, with heat indices as high as 112 degrees possible!

As such, widespread Heat Advisories are found stretching from south South Dakota, Nebraska and southern Minnesota into Iowa, eastern Kansas, Missouri, eastern Oklahoma, eastern Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, western and central Tennessee, Illinois, western Kentucky, western Indiana and extreme southwestern Michigan. Extreme Heat Warnings and Watches are in effect for eastern Iowa, southeastern Wisconsin, Illinois, southeastern Missouri, east-central Iowa, eastern and central Arkansas into western Tennessee, much of Mississippi, northeastern and southern Louisiana, and southwestern Kentucky.

Additional Heat Advisories can be found stretching along the eastern Gulf Coast into the Southeast, including much of Alabama into northern Florida, southern and central Georgia, and extreme southern South Carolina.

If you must go outdoors, prepare by staying hydrated and keep a watchful eye for any signs of heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Wear the right clothing, such as loose-fitting, lightweight and breathable fabrics, and take many breaks within a cool and shaded area.

Make sure to take extra precautions for children and the elderly as they are more susceptible to heat-related illness. Never leave children or animals alone in a locked vehicle as it can become dangerous and potentially fatal.
