Tropical Storm Fernand's Forecast Track

Not even a weekend has gone by since Hurricane Erin lost its tropical characteristics, and the Atlantic tropics are already drawing up a new storm.

As of 11 p.m. AST/EDT, Tropical Storm Fernand was located near 36.1N, 56.3W, or 550 miles east-northeast of Bermuda. The system has maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, with a minimum central pressure of 1002 mb or 29.59 inches of mercury. It is moving to the northeast at 13 mph.

Feeding off the warm water of the western Atlantic, Fernand will continue to intensify before passing east of Bermuda later today, but is forecast to remain a tropical storm.

Fernand will remain far enough away where impacts are unlikely to be felt over Bermuda. That said, Fernand will continue on a northeastward track into the open Atlantic by midweek, just like Erin.

We are coming very close to the peak of the hurricane season, which is climatologically the second week of September. If you haven’t already, now is the time to prepare for the hurricane season. Have a “go” bag ready with chargers, water, food and other necessities. Also, take the time to scope out multiple evacuation routes, in case your preferred one is traffic-jammed or blocked.
