East winds persist across the Arctic Coast this week as an Arctic High remains in place north of Wrangel Island. This, combined with a cold airmass is bringing wind chills as low as -50 F, northeast winds 15 to 35 mph with higher gusts, and periods of blowing snow. An area of open water off the coast from Utqiagvik to Point Lay is limiting the duration of blowing snow along the northwest coast, though brief periods of blizzard conditions will continue. Wind chills may approach -60 F through Wednesday night. Northerly winds through Brooks Range passes will also be persistent through the week. This will bring areas of blowing snow and very cold wind chills.
